At Samuels of Norfolk we make it our business to know what our garment and product suppliers attitudes are to healthy societies, including their attitudes to the environment and what they add to their local communities in terms of fair pay and working conditions.
Many customers are becoming much more discerning about the garments and products that they buy. Businesses are being compelled to consider what impact their business is having on the planet and it is encouraging to see the improvements and commitment to achieving this. A selection of organisations doing great work with Samuels of Norfolk suppliers: Living Wage Foundation The Living Wage Foundation sets an hourly rate that employees can earn to ensure that they can live poverty free. At Samuels of Norfolk we are proud that we are members of the Living Wage Foundation and our employees are able to earn the living wage that is set by the foundation. We believe in rewarding our employees fairly and by doing so we feel we maintain an exceptional high service and value for money to our customers. Fair Trade Foundation The Fair Trade Foundation is an independent non-profit organisation and their aim is to give a sustainable livelihood to the workers that are involved in all aspects of the production of goods and in our case, clothing. When you see the Fair Trade Foundation Mark you know from the production of the raw material to the finished product that the product has been certified and the workers have been treated fairly. Brands that use the Fair Trade Foundation Mark: Epona, Premier Fair Wear Foundation The Fair Wear Foundation is an independent non-profit organisation that has been set up specifically to improve working conditions in the garment industry. More and more customers are demanding to know what goes into the production of their garments. When you purchase a Fair Wear certified product you know that the pay and conditions in the local market are fair and just. Brands that use the Fair Wear Foundation Mark: Continental Clothing, Stanley Stella, Earth Positive, Salvage, B&C collection, Ron Hill, Regatta Worldwide Responsible Apparel Production WRAP is an independent, non-profit team of global social compliance experts. Their main aim is to visit facilities that are involved in the production of clothing and certify the facility complies with local laws, workplace regulations, universal workers rights and environmental regulations.        Global Recycle Standard Global Recycle Standard (GRS) is a certification that ensures that the materials that are claimed to be recycled would have been gone into the solid waste stream. This can be pre-consumer, for instance off cuts from the manufacturing process, or post consumer, such as plastic bottles. For more information please go to the Textile Exchange.
Brands that are GRS Standard: Salvage Oeko-Tex Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 is mark given to textiles that have proved that harmful substances are not used in manufacturing and that the workforce are not exposed to any. The garment has been proven safe to wear and will not cause harm to the skin when worn. Brands that are Oeko-Tex® Standard 100: B&C Collection, Fruit of the Loom, Gildan, Hanes, Jerzee, Kariban, Okama, Result, Russell, Sol's Sedex Sedex is a ethical data exchange that is a not for profit members organisation and is dedicated to showing a transparent responsible and ethical supply chain.
